Scientific Reports Confirm ... UV Nail Lamps are Safe

"Have you heard rumors that UV lamps are unsafe — that they may even cause cancer? Recently three industry chemists got together to test the claims made in a report by two Texas-based dermatologists that the lamps are a source of “high-dose UV-A.” The report also ... inaccurately compared UV tanning beds with UV nail lamps. Three leading nail industry scientists — Doug Schoon (CND), Paul Bryson (OPI), and Jim McConnell (Light Elegance) — were surprised by these claims. To verify the facts, using an independent laboratory, they tested the leading UV nail lamps to determine how much UV-A and UV-B they emit and then compared that to natural sunlight. They concluded that the dermatologists’ report, “Occurrence of Nonmelanoma Skin Cancers on the Hands After UV Nail Light Exposure,” overestimated the exposure of client skin to UV light emitted from UV nail lamps and improperly characterized the effect of these lamps on the hand. In fact, they noted, clients’ hands are likely to be exposed to more UV light while driving their cars than they will receive from UV gel nail services." more... Hard Gels are used to create beautiful nail enhancements as an overlay or with a length extension. They are shiney, non-porous, flexible and cannot be soaked off. UV cured. The newest Hard Gels, however, can also be cured in LED.

Soft Gels are used as a natural-nail overlay. They are softer and more flexible than Hard Gels and can be soaked off. UV or LED cured depending on brand.

Gel Nail Polishes are made with soft gel and pigment and are applied similar to nail polish except that they are cured under UV lights like all gels. Most brands can also be cured with the faster LED lights.

Custom-Blending is used to create endless color and effect choices. Mixing colors to make new colors or adding glitter, for example.

A 2010 study--which alsoconcluded that UV lamps do not result in an increased risk of developing skin cancer--compared lamps to sunlight. The two, however, do not release thesamekind of emission. 'Comparing UV lamps to sunlight ins't comparing apples to apples, because sunlight is more dangerous than UV lamps.' explains Doug Schoon, co-chair ofthe Professional Beauty Association (PBA) NailManufacturers Council on Safety. 'The reason we made this comparisonwas so that people copuld better understand the very low risks associated with the use ofUV nail lamps.'

Robert Sayre, the world's leading photobiologist and creator of the SPF system, has also finished an investigation into the connection between lamps and cancer. The verdict is clear:  Curing is here to stay!"

"Client of the Month: The Arthritic. Arthritis is America’s #1 cause of disability. Educate yourself about this often debilitating disease, and then try some of our techniques and suggestions for providing a service that offers comfort to your clients suffering with arthritis pain.

PAINFUL, INFLAMED JOINTS: Arthritis occurs when the cartilage that surrounds a joint is damaged. While there are more than 100 different types of arthritis, the most common form is osteoarthritis, which is caused by trauma or general  wear and tear on the joints. Trauma can be degenerative, which is generally a result of aging; it can come from an injury; or it can be the result of obesity, as excess weight can wear out the cartilage and stress the joints. Other forms, such as rheumatoid arthritis, are caused by an overactive immune system, but all forms of arthritis are painful. Symptoms can include swollen joints, warmth, redness, stiffness or soreness, and pain. "      MORE...
